August is always a busy time for us, but especially so this year. My husband will be getting back from Germany tomorrow, after a very long three weeks. August 1st also marks my birthday! I haven't had time to think about it really, as I have been busy planning my twin boys' birthday and making sure the farm is taken care of.
But, along with that comes the beginning of bow season, perhaps the most awaited season for me! All year I practice and tune in my bow, I work on my skills and my bad habits. I think about placing an arrow perfectly in an elk or deer. I think of all the meat I will obtain from the animal that will in turn feed my family. It's a great deal of work, but we are rewarded greatly. There is just something about bow hunting that is so rewarding, the stalking and sneaking is such a primal and ritualistic experience.
Our pigs are growing at a rapid rate, they're happy to be on pasture and play a great deal. Our turkey pair is getting rather large too, I would hope so since they eat an incredible amount! I hope to see our young pullets to start laying in the fall, and bring us some much needed eggs and perhaps a small income from their eggs. Only time will tell.
